6th District Made Better by Immigrants

The 6th Congressional District has 103,520 immigrants. Our District and our country are made better because we are a melting pot of cultures and ideas. Our current Congressman doesn't agree- he supports the immigration ban. Maybe he needs to read this article.

DCCC Names Illinois 6th as a 2018 Priority Race

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has named the Illinois 6th Congressional District one of twenty priority districts to turn Democratic in 2018.

Hillary Clinton Defeated Donald Trump in the 6th District and Democrats hope that negative attitudes toward the Trump Administration will propel a Democrat to victory against the 6-term incumbent Peter Roskam.

Peter has many views that are out of line with District residents including his stance on abortion. He believes that abortion should be illegal even in the case of rape or incest.

Roskam also supports the Trump Administrations travel ban on Muslims.

Progressive Democrat Geoffrey Petzel will fight to preserve a womans right to choose and push for progressive values that make America more inclusive of all races, religions and sexual orientations.

US Blocks Cooper Mine

Today the US Forest Service announced the revocation of mining leases for a proposed copper mine adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota.

The mining leases, originally issued in 1966, included land in the Superior National Forest. Twin Metals recently proposed opening a full scale copper mine on the site threatening the Canoe Area's pristine waters.

Numerous groups and individuals fought the project including Geoffrey Petzel. Petzel wrote a letter to the US Forest Service in July requesting the leases be revoked because they violated modern environmental law and violated the right of all Americans to enjoy clean water.

"The revocation of federal leases adjacent to the Boundary Waters is a true example of our government working for the people. I applaud the Forest Service for making the right decision to protect the park."

It is unclear if the Trump Administration will have any ability to overturn the decision.

Petzel forms Exploratory Campaign Committee

Geoffrey Petzel has formed an exploratory committee to examine the possibility for running for United States Congress in the 2018 election in the 6th Congressional District of Illinois.

Petzel, who previously ran for the Democratic Nomination in the 2012 6th District Primary said "I want to help lead not only the 6th District, but our nation. I believe the election of Donald Trump has cast a dark shadow over this country. Many believe his election represents a shift in American values."

"I can't accept that Americans should be divided into categories of race, religion and sexual orientation. I believe in a united America, a progressive America, an inclusive and positive America and that is what I will bring to Congress."

Petzel said "Its time for a change. The voters in the 6th need new leadership. They need a Congressman who shares the same values and who will work to make their lives better."

The 6th District is currently represented by Peter Roskam, an extreme conservative who has refused to denounce the racist and divisive remarks made by President Elect Trump.
